We all have needs.

Some of us have additional needs.

Our mission is to provide a user-friendly and time-saving website of current and comprehensive information of available resources to assist children and adults with additional needs and their families in finding appropriate services.

By employing individuals with additional needs to research and maintain the website, we provide a platform for them to share their abilities and unique insights and ideas. The website is also a vehicle for educating employers about the benefits of hiring individuals with additional needs.

       ABOUT ADDITIONAL NEEDS, INC.

My wife, Cynthia, and I were blessed with our son, Jack, on May 6, 2010. Jack is with Down syndrome and also had complete AV septal defect which required surgery. During that stressful time I spent many hours on the internet researching Down syndrome and heart defects. I was able to find information about both but information on getting immediate help right here in Naples was not easily available. I spent a lot of valuable time searching.

During these past years, I have amassed a database of resources for parents of a newly diagnosed child with additional needs as well as community resources for adults with additional needs, educators, and the medical industry. Our goal is to have this information easily available to save parents and individuals valuable time when they most require appropriate resources and therapies.

Annual Art Experience for

children & adults with additional needs.

Celebration of Creation art experience helps bring public awareness to the talents and abilities of those with additional needs. This event is not about “the art” itself, rather, it is about getting people involved! This contest will allow the public to see the talents and abilities that we all have and are capable of. An Art Contest is just a FUN way of doing so.

To help get our artists out into nature, we are basing this years’ art contest on “Nature“. This Nature theme may include art that relates to anything nature related, (animals, landscapes, seascapes, skies, world of flora and fauna, etc). A variety of interpretations of our nature theme may be submitted (representative, abstract, conceptual). The following visual art mediums are acceptable: painting, drawing, fiber art, photography, sculpture or collage.

Special thanks to Naples Botanical Garden for partnering with Additional Needs, Inc. The Garden will host the 2023-2024 Additional Needs Art Contest Reception & Awards on the 20th of January, 2024 from 4-6pm.

Art and nature can play a significant role in the lives of individuals with additional needs, providing them with unique and valuable experiences. Here are some reasons why art and nature are important for individuals with additional needs:

Expression and Communication: Art and nature offer alternative forms of expression for individuals who may struggle with verbal communication. Through art, such as painting, sculpting, or music, individuals can express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Nature, on the other hand, provides a serene and calming environment that can encourage relaxation and self-reflection.

Sensory Stimulation: Many individuals with additional needs have sensory sensitivities or challenges. Art and nature can provide a multi-sensory experience that engages their senses in a therapeutic manner. The vibrant colors, textures, and sounds found in art and the natural world can stimulate sensory exploration and enhance their overall sensory integration.

Emotional Well-being: Engaging in art and spending time in nature can have a positive impact on emotional well-being. Creating art allows individuals to explore their emotions and process their experiences. Nature, with its beauty and tranquility, can promote a sense of calmness, reduce stress levels, and improve overall mood.

Skill Development: Art and nature provide opportunities for skill development and personal growth. Through artistic activities, individuals can enhance their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness. Nature exploration promotes gross motor skills, balance, and coordination. Both activities encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.

Social Interaction and Inclusion: Art and nature can serve as platforms for social interaction and inclusion. Group art projects and nature-based activities provide opportunities for individuals with additional needs to engage with others, share their work, and collaborate. This fosters a sense of belonging and encourages social connections.

Therapeutic Benefits: Art therapy and nature-based therapies are widely recognized for their therapeutic benefits. They can be tailored to meet the specific needs of individuals with additional needs, promoting self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-confidence. Engaging in these activities under the guidance of trained professionals can support their overall well-being.

Personal Empowerment: Engaging in art and nature can empower individuals with additional needs by providing a sense of achievement and mastery. The process of creating art or connecting with nature allows them to develop a sense of agency and control over their environment. This empowerment can positively impact their self-image and overall quality of life. It is important to recognize and support the interests and abilities of individuals with additional needs when providing art and nature experiences. Creating inclusive and accessible environments that cater to their specific requirements allows them to fully benefit from the richness and therapeutic potential of art and nature.

These are just some of the reason we created “Celebration of Creation” an art experience for individuals with additional needs of all ages. Learn how you or your loved one with additional needs can take part here ANI’s “Celebration of Creation”.

Right now the additional needs’ community is full of stress and anxiety. It’s the process not the outcome that helps alleviate stress and anxiety. That is one of the reasons we want artists to get involved and not worry if they will win one of the top prizes. With that mission in mind, we came up with “Support individuals with additional needs as you support your local businesses by becoming an Angel sponsor for ANI’s art contest. “

ANI constantly strives to see how our resources and events will be a win-win for everyone involved. As an Angel Sponsor you are encouraging individuals with additional needs to get involved with the art contest as you continue supporting your local businesses. That is a win win for everyone. We want to give everyone a chance to win a prize and that is the reason why we thought of this idea which was inspired by our CEO’s sister-law Heidi Sharpe. She and her family purchased two gifts cards from Frank’s Bakery in Bangor Maine and then did a drawing to give those cards away.

How it works is you, the Angel sponsor, purchases a gift card of $25 or more from one or more of your local businesses and mail it to Additional Needs, Inc. at P.O. Box 110124 Naples, Florida 34108. Please e-mail us at Info@additionalneeds.info to let us know it’s coming so we can start on the promotional part so once it arrives we are all set to start getting the word out to individuals with additional needs in your area.  You and the company or companies you purchased from will be put on our Angel Sponsor page. Once the card or cards arrive we will let the artists know that we will have a drawing in two weeks for the card or cards. Once the two weeks is up we will do a live Facebook drawing by putting the names of the artists in your area in a hat and pulling out a name. The more cards we get, the more drawings we will do.  In order for the artists to participate in the drawings, they will need to be registered and have a picture of how their artwork is coming along. Or, if they have finished it in those two weeks the final picture of their artwork. We just want to make sure that the artist is going do a piece of art. Artists will be eligible for new cards that come into their area as long as they have not won a card before.

Thank you for helping individuals with additional needs de-stress as you support your local businesses in these trying times.
